In emergency room, she was fully conscious without any evident neurological damage. From computed tomography (CT) study ([Fig. 1A B]) three-dimensional reconstruction 1C]), chopstick found to be passing through superior orbital fissure into cranium. No hematoma an angiogram showed no vascular injury. Under general anesthesia, withdrawn difficulty in one piece 1D]) patient remained well complications. Immediate postoperative CT scan evidence neural damage or intracranial hemorrhage 1E F]). Postoperative prophylactic antibiotics were administered prevent infections.[1] [2] [3] [4] Pre- ophthalmological examination revealed normal visual acuity intact ocular movements. The discharged home 5 days after operation. At 3-month follow-up, there neurological/ophthalmological deficits infections.

A 38-year-old man fell from a chair with a chopstick in his hand. The chopstick penetrated his left eye. He noticed pain, swelling, and numbness around his left eye. On physical examination, a linear wound was noted at the medial aspect of the left eyelid. Noncontrast computed tomography (CT) study showed a linear hypodense structure extending from the medial aspect of the left orbit to the occ...

We report the first case of a transnasal penetrating intracranial injury in Hong Kong by a chopstick. A 49-year-old man attempted suicide by inserting a wooden chopstick into his left nose and then pulled it out. The chopstick caused a transnasal penetrating brain injury, confirmed by contrast magnetic resonance imaging of the brain. He was managed conservatively. Later he developed meningitis ...

Eyelid or periocular wounds may be the only initial sign of occult, penetrating intracranial trauma. As in this case, the failure to recognize the injury may contribute to serious and potentially life-threatening complications. The discussion emphasizes that a high degree of suspicion and knowledge of patterns of occult penetrating orbito-cranial injury may help direct appropriate radiological ...
متن کاملTransorbital Penetrating Intracranial Injury Caused by Sheppard’s Hook
Intracranial injury resulting from transorbital penetrating objects is rare in a noncombat setting. As such there is a significant lack of data pertaining to the management of non-projectile traumatic brain injuries due to foreign bodies entering the brain. Intracranial complications can include intracerebral hematoma, cerebral contusion, intraventricular hemorrhage, pneumocephalus, brain stem ...

Oscular and orbital injuries due to stab wounds may mask underlying serious intracranial damage. The correct clinical assessment and treatment of such cases require the attention of a team comprising a neurosurgeon, ophthalmologist, otolaryngologist, and plastic surgeon.
